Why did you become an attorney?

I enjoy seeking justice for individuals and small businesses.  The pursuit of justice through the law calls upon all of my strengths and challenges me to continue to grow as a lawyer and a person.  There is no greater satisfaction for me than to use my legal knowledge and talent to help a client achieve a fair resolution of a difficult problem.

What experiences (work and personal) help you to be a better attorney?

Before I went to law school I was a blue collar worker for several years.  I have worked on factory assembly lines, baled hay on a farm, worked in iron foundries, driven a taxi, and worked as a deck hand on a tug boat on the Mississippi.  I helped organize a union at the Cincinnati foundry where I worked and led the contract negotiation committee after the union won the election.  All of these experiences taught me what it is like to work with your hands for a living, how to understand and appreciate a variety of people, and how fortunate I am to be able to earn a living as a lawyer, using my mind to do what I love to do.

What made you choose your primary specialty focus of law?

My background in blue collar work and my experience with labor organizing made me interested in helping working people with their problems at work.  

What makes your law firm unique?

We take only cases that we believe can result in a real benefit to the client.  We are mindful of the fact that in many cases, the lawyers are the only ones who "win" from a monetary stantpoint, and we discuss that with our clients and keep it in mind throughout the representation.  We are selective in the cases we take; ours is not a "high volume" practice.  We have a variety of often complex and interesting cases in the areas of employment law and business and general litigation.  We give every case our full attention and strive for the best possible result for our clients.

Responsible, helpful, able to ask good questions, up front and honest about their litigation goals, willing to listen to his or her lawyer and follow their advice after all issues are thoroughly discussed.
