Why did you become an attorney?

I am lucky; from as far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a lawyer. There was no history in my family of being lawyers. I just wanted to be an advocate and help people solve their problems.

What experiences (work and personal) help you to be a better attorney?

I have always worked hard to achieve my goals. I have been working since I was fourteen years old. I put myself through college and law school and I know what it is like to work hard for your dreams. I also know the feeling when life doesn’t work out like you planned and you have to create a different path to get where you want to go. I have worked jobs that were less than glamorous and I have worked in a professional setting. In that regard, my experience as Trust Counsel for a major bank was invaluable. It taught me the world of finance, investments and taxation and how these are such an integral part of estate planning, no matter if your estate is nominal or significant. I feel the experience provides a significant advantage in helping my clients in private practice, navigate those issues. I try to put myself in my client’s shoes and provide the services and compassion that they want and need.

What made you choose your primary specialty focus of law?

When I was 12 years old, my father died unexpectedly. My mother had the traditional role of homemaker and was very overwhelmed with the estate administration process and she hired an attorney recommended by a neighbor. This attorney was very kind and patient and guided the entire family through the difficult process. That is when I realized what a service that I could offer by helping other people through the difficult journey that I experienced.

What makes your law firm unique?

We are the premier small law firm in the northern suburbs of Cincinnati with an excellent reputation. We focus exclusively on Corporate and Business, commercial real estate, Homeowner Association and Condominium Association, Estate Planning, Trusts and Probate Administration and related tax matters. We limit our fields of practice so that we can bring the best service and value to the client.

Describe your ideal client.

My ideal client is simply someone that needs the help that I can offer; whether it is helping someone plan for their family, someone facing a serious health issue or someone has passed. These are matters that most of us with deal with at sometime in our lives, so I want to offer my personal and professional experience to help the client through that moment and with peace of mind.

Describe your personal interest and hobbies.

I am a mother of three teenage boys, so my interests surround their interests and activities from sports, band, scouting, school functions. When I have free time, I like to garden and hike.

Describe your charitable activities.

One of my fundamental beliefs is that to whom much is given, much is expected. I have been given so many blessings in my life, so I want to use my talents to give back to the community. I am on the Board of Trustees of the West Chester Liberty Community Foundation, serving on the Executive, Audit and Planned Giving Committees. I am also on the Board of Trustees of the Beth Siniger Flege Pancreatic Cancer and Awareness Fund. I volunteer for the activities for our sons, from serving on the Parent Council, assisting with scouting, church and sporting activities and all the related fund raising.

Summary of Previous Employment

I graduated from The Ohio State University with a BA degree in 1982 and was awarded the Stadium Scholarship. I graduated from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 1985, and was awarded the Alcoa Fellowship for Women in Law. In my first few years of practice, I was with a small law firm in Columbus, Ohio practicing estate administration, real estate and collection law. However, I wanted more in depth estate planning and administration experience and I joined the Trust Department of US Bank, NA in 1988 and ended my career with the bank as Trust Counsel. I joined Cuni & Ferguson, Co. LPA in 1996 and was named partner in 1998; the firm is now known as Cuni, Ferguson & LeVay, Co. LPA. While my employment with US Bank, I was a frequent lecturer with the Ohio Bankers Association on Estate and Trust Administrative matters. Since that time, I am a frequent presenter of professional seminars on estate and trust administration and the related taxation matters. I am a member of the Ohio State Bar Association (Estate Planning Committee), Cincinnati Bar Association (Estate Planning and Elder Law Committees), Cincinnati Estate Planning Council, and I serve on the Board of Trustees for the West Chester Liberty Community Foundation (Executive, Audit and Planned Giving Committees) and the Beth Siniger Flege Pancreatic Cancer and Awareness Fund.
